From the Desk of the President
Leadership Retreat – The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso Leadership Retreat was held this week. This was an opportunity for our deans, department chairs, and senior leaders to review accomplishments and challenges and initiate strategic planning for next year. I would like to thank the team for showing extreme dedication as we aim for excellence in providing education, research and patient care.
Campus Visit – TTUHSC El Paso Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Jose Manuel de la Rosa, M.D.; El Paso County Medical Society (EPCMS) President Syed Yusoof, M.D.; EPMS Executive Director Patsy Slaughter and I met with Texas Medical Association (TMA) President Austin King, M.D., on his tour of Texas medical schools. His visit gave us a chance to discuss our institution’s priorities in terms of education, patient care and research. He shared what he hopes to accomplish during his term and encouraged greater participation of our faculty in the organization, which has my support.
Identity Guidelines – The new TTUHSC El Paso logos and Identity Guidelines are now out. This week, Communications and Marketing Senior Director Dr. Laura Gallegos gave chairs, directors and administrators a preview of the new logos and guidance on how they should be used. These can be found at http://elpaso.ttuhsc.edu/communications/identityguidelines/default.aspx. If you have any questions about our Identity Guidelines, feel free to contact TTUHSC El Paso Brand Manager Liz Widby at 215-4865 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Next week all TTUHSC El Paso employees and students will receive a T-shirt with the new logo to proudly wear on spirit days and while working out around town.
Match Day – On Match Day, medical students throughout the U.S. and Canada open up an envelope at noon (CST) to find out where they will spend the next three to five years of their residency. Our Paul L. Foster School of Medicine fourth-year medical students will discover their destiny at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 20, during Match Day festivities held in the Academic Education Center’s Misenhimer Auditorium. I hope you’ll join me for the festivities.
Mighty Mujer Participants – The Mighty Mujer Triathlon and Texas Tech Physicians at El Paso Athlete Expo will take place on Saturday, April 25. Quite a few of our female athletes are working towards the title of “Mighty Mujer”. Leading up to the race, we’ll feature a few of them. This week, find out what motivated IT’s Iskra Jacobo to become a triathlete, while juggling a full-time job and family (including two little ones) and attending school! Prepare to be inspired!
