From the Desk of the President
Campus Visit – We had the pleasure of hosting Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D., (R-TX) during his visit to El Paso for the 10th annual Border Health Conference. Burgess toured our campus and simulation lab and met with several of our medical, nursing and graduate students.
Student Research – Congratulations to the 2015 Summer Accelerated Biomedical Research (SABR) program interns who presented their research findings today. During the 10-week program, 18 undergraduate students from across the nation gained valuable lab experience and were exposed to the daily life of a graduate student.
Student Experience – I’d like to share a few kind words from a mother who enrolled her daughter in one of the summer high school medical camps our Paul L. Foster School of Medicine held this year:
“I want to thank you and everyone involved with hosting the Medical Summer Camp. My daughter […] really enjoyed it. She enjoyed the speakers, the tours, and the other students that she met.
“It takes a lot of work and commitment to host an event like this, and it is great that Texas Tech Medical School is able to reach out and connect with so many young people in this community. It provides them an excellent opportunity to learn more about the medical profession than they would be exposed to in their day-to-day classes in high school.”
My thanks to all those who made another year of summer camps on campus a positive experience for our community’s youth.
Patient Contact – I’m pleased to announce the launch of a new centralized call center that will allow current and prospective patients to have an exceptional patient care experience. Housed in the basement of the Clinical Sciences Building on Alberta Avenue, the Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso Contact Center has patient service specialists available from different clinics to answer phone calls from concerned patients. By consolidating and standardizing phone operations, we have the opportunity to provide a consistent and outstanding patient experience.
