Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso honored its graduates with an in-person commencement ceremony for the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the historic Plaza Theatre in Downtown El Paso.
Twenty-six students graduated with a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree and 11 students received a post-baccalaureate certificate in biomedical sciences on May 7.
The mission of the GSBS is to educate the next generation of scientists and health-related professionals by providing a dynamic research environment. The GSBS is oriented to satisfy the learning needs of a multicultural group of students by fostering creativity and discovery.
As of 2020, more than 70 students have graduated from the GSBS. Most GSBS graduates attend medical or dental school, or pursue their Ph.D., after graduation.
All in attendance were required to wear facemasks and follow social distancing guidelines. The ceremony was livestreamed via Facebook at facebook.com/ttuhscep.
Spring commencement ceremonies a year ago were conducted virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while commencement ceremonies in December 2020 were conducted with limited in-person formats.
