TECHS celebrates second year at TTUHSC El Paso
The Training and Educational Center for Healthcare Simulation (TECHS) is turning 2 on Feb. 27, 2021!
TECHS is also proud to announce the winners of the 2020 Simulation Competition Award: Thwe Htay, M.D., and Damaris Rosado, M.S., PA-C.
The competition recognized faculty/educators who created the most unique, impactful and/or innovative solution to delivering simulation-based education on the TTUHSC El Paso campus during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Htay, an associate professor, and Rosado, a physician assistant and medical skills senior teacher, were selected for their creation of an interactive diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) virtual simulation to train preclinical medical students.
This scenario used a live standardized patient combined with an interactive virtual vital signs monitor to provide feedback on care. They also ensured collection of pre- and post-session knowledge to demonstrate effectiveness of the session.
The winners were selected by the TECHS steering committee based on nominations of candidates from Graduate Medical Education, and the medical and nursing schools.
Honorable mentions go to Steven Radtke, M.D., for his creation and use of innovative tools and devices to provide OB/GYN instruction; Fabian Salazar, D.N.P., R.N., for his use and creation of an interactive VR scenario to train acute care in nursing education; and TECHS’s own Associate Director Eduardo Luevano for dedication to education across specialties, and innovation in creating and designing the scenarios used by the above-mentioned faculty.
