Collaborative Research – Congratulations to Drs. Ming-Tao Zeng, Olof Sundin, Himanshu Garg, Michael Escamilla, Hugo Sandoval, Luis Ramos-Duran and Anjali Joshi, who have been chosen to participate in the Texas Tech Presidential Collaborative Research Initiative. This is a new program that is fostering collaboration and funding innovative research among Texas Tech University System campuses. A total of 11 research groups were granted funding. We’re proud of our TTUHSC El Paso faculty whose research projects were selected for funding from among more than 70 proposals.
Foster Scholars Luncheon – El Paso business leader Paul Foster was recognized for his contributions to scholarship opportunities for our medical students. At a luncheon in his honor, 75 Paul L. Foster School of Medicine scholarship recipients asked him questions and thanked him for his life-changing contribution through a video that explained how he’s helping them pursue their dreams. At the end, the Foster scholars presented him with a handcrafted wooden box containing handwritten thank you letters from each student.
30 years of Experience – After more than three decades of experience providing general and pediatric surgical care and education, Don Meier, M.D., FACS, retired Aug. 31. During one of his last presentations Dr. Meier discussed and shared his experiences and knowledge in providing medical surgical care in under-served countries in Africa. Since his arrival in 2003, Dr. Meier has raised the quality of surgical care for children in El Paso, far west Texas, southern New Mexico, and the state of Chihuahua. We’re grateful for what he’s done for our students, our patients and our institution.
