Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and the community participated in two events over the weekend to raise money for the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Medical Student Run Clinic. The clinic provides free medical services to the far East El Paso community of Sparks.
On Saturday, Oct. 27, folks headed out to Topgolf El Paso on the West Side for the Hearts for Sparks Golf Tournament. On Sunday, Oct. 28, people gathered at Scenic Drive in Central El Paso to take part in the Sprint for Sparks 5K Fun Run.
Since the MSRC opened its doors in fall 2013, more than 1,465 patients have received health care. Students manage all clinic operations, from triage to patient care and discharge, under the direct supervision of volunteer physicians. This also serves as a great opportunity for students to practice their Spanish language skills, all while developing a relationship with the community and providing invaluable services to those who need them most.
