HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN ATHLETE? WERE YOU ALWAYS ACTIVE? I have been active ever since I was little. I grew up playing sports and I played basketball at the NCAA level for the University of Houston. Working out and being active has always been a big part of my life.
WHAT DOES A “MIGHTY MUJER” MEAN TO YOU? To me, a “mighty mujer” is a woman who is strong, not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually. She is not afraid of a challenge and will rise above her fears and doubts to accomplish the task at hand.
WHAT MADE YOU SIGN UP? My classmate Susan Lampley and I did the Mighty Mujer last year, and it was awesome!! So of course I wanted to do it again!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WORK OUT? My inspiration for working out comes from my love of doing it! I love the amount of discipline and effort that it takes and I especially love the way it makes me feel.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH THROUGH COMPETING? I am doing the longer distance this year, and this will be a new distance for me, so I am looking forward to the challenge!
WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO TAKE ON AFTER COMPLETING THE MIGHTY MUJER? My next big accomplishment that I would like to go after in the fitness world is completing a half-ironman.
WHAT ADVICE TO YOU HAVE FOR OTHERS INTERESTED IN TAKING ON THIS CHALLENGE? My advice to others interested in doing the Mighty Mujer is GO FOR IT!! The Mighty Mujer is a great triathlon for beginners, with lots of clinics and guidance along the way to help you navigate the world of triathlons. So don’t let your fear or self-doubt stop you. People always underestimate what their body is capable of doing, but you will never know what your limits are until you push them.
