Samuel Garcia, an entering student scheduled to matriculate in July 2015 at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine as part of the Class of 2019, was among nine Texans awarded scholarships by the Texas Medical Association. Garcia was among the winners of this award under the TMA’s Minority Scholarship Program for academic achievement, commitment to community service and a deep desire to care for Texas’s increasingly diverse population.
Garcia is from El Paso and a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso with a major in Microbiology. He entered in the competition for this award by submitting and essay on how as a future physician he would achieve the TMA vision statement “to improve the health of all Texans”. His scholarship will be presented to him at a luncheon during the annual conference of the TMA in Austin, May 1. “We are very proud of Mr. Garcia for winning this scholarship award, and look forward to seeing him in July as part of the entering Class of 2019”, said Dr. Manuel Schydlower, Associate Dean for Admissions, PLFSOM.
