Friday’s Texas Tech Night at the Chihuahuas was attended by nearly 1,000 students, alumni, faculty and staff from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. Also in attendance were members of the Texas Tech University System Foundation Board and TTU Chancellor Robert L. Duncan, who threw out the first pitch of the game.
Fans braved the early summer heat and a 33-minute rain delay to cheer on the home team, dubbed the Desert Gators — one of the team’s possible franchise names — for “what could have been” night. The Chihuahuas (Gators) faced the Sacramento River Cats, and although they staged a late game rally, came up a little short. The final score: 4-3, Sacramento.
