TTUHSC El Paso Recycle Program Now Accepts Alkaline Batteries

The TTUHSC El Paso Recycle Program now accepts alkaline batteries. Lithium batteries, though not recycled, should be dropped off with Jose Melchor, occupational/environmental safety manager with the TTUHSC at El Paso Department of Safety Services, for disposal as hazardous waste.

The new process for disposal of 9 volt, AA, AAA, C and D alkaline batteries is as follows:

  • Place a strip of tape around the ends of the battery so that the (+ )and (–) ends are covered and prevented from making contact with ends of other batteries.
  • Drop them off at the following collection points – Professional Liability Risk Management Office, Academic Education Center (AEC), suite 105 on the first floor; or with Ana Alvarado, located in the mailroom on the first floor of the Medical Education Building (MEB).

Collected batteries with taped ends may also be given to facilities operations staff who will then bring them back to drop off points. For more information, contact any department ‘Greenie’ or Erika Guerra at 215-4500 or Susan Butkiewicz at 215-4438.

Spring Into Wellness – Dunking Booth Volunteers Wanted!

Four slots are available for volunteers to cool off and get dunked during the second annual Spring into Wellness event on April 4, 2014. Event coordinators are looking for administrators/directors/unit managers to commit to sitting on the hot/wet seat for 30 minutes. All proceeds received from the dunking booth will go to a local charity here in El Paso – which is yet to be determined.  If you know of an agency that has made a positive difference in the lives of those in need, we look forward to hearing your suggestions.  But first make sure it is registered as a non-profit organization that is registered with state and federal authorities.

Email volunteer information or charity ideas to elp.employeecouncil@ttuhsc.edu.
