Department of Emergency Medicine Participates in Simulation Conference

The 16th Annual International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) was held last week in San Diego, CA with a strong representation from TTUHSC El Paso’s Department of Emergency Medicine. This annual event is held by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), a group “that advances the application of simulation in healthcare through global engagement.”

The department of emergency medicine delivered seven separate lectures through five different presenters. In addition, two poster presentations were published for the event.

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare also offers their Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification. This highly recognized certification is difficult to obtain.  Three emergency medicine staff members became certified, bringing the total number of CHSOS certified on campus to four. Less than 70 are certified in the world.

IMG_8620Scott Crawford, M.D., CHSOS, one of the newly certified, also accepted a second place award for technology innovation for the creation of a pulmonary edema hack that was demonstrated at the 2014 Pills and Thrills That Kill toxicology conference. Dr. Crawford was also recently elected president of SimGHOSTS, a nonprofit group that provides training events locally and internationally related to health care simulation technology.
