The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Office of Diversity Affairs in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs is launching a Diversity Mentorship Program for first-year medical students. The Diversity Mentorship Program was developed to create a forum by which first-year medical student mentees and faculty mentors can build a professional relationship that will aid the student in navigating medical school. Approximately 35 MSIs and 35 faculty members are enrolled in the program.
The program was officially launched on Thursday, July 24 with a networking reception where MSIs and faculty members were able to meet and mingle as a means to facilitate the mentor selection process. This event was a great success with over 50 in attendance. “We are looking forward to an exciting and fruitful first year of our Diversity Mentorship Program so as to enrich the medical school experience for our incoming students,” said Jessica A. Calderon-Mora, MPH, MCHES, senior director of TTUHSC EP Diversity Affairs.
