Dr. Manuel Schydlower Retires After Long Career at TTUHSC El Paso

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso community gathered in the Medical Education Building lobby on April 17 to honor Manuel Schydlower, M.D., who retired after 42 years of service to the university.

Dr. Schydlower retired as the associate academic dean for admissions for the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, where he also served as a professor of pediatrics and taught adolescent medicine.

In addition to educating medical students during his four-decade career, Dr. Schydlower served other administrative roles at TTUHSC El Paso, including assistant dean of medical education, and oversight of medical student affairs, graduate medical education and continuing medical education. He also directed the transitional-year residency program.

Before joining the faculty of the El Paso campus in 1977, Dr. Schydlower retired as a colonel from William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, where he was chief of the department of clinical investigations, director of the combined medicine-pediatrics residency and director of the adolescent medicine fellowship programs.
