Each month, a Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso employee who contributes to the university’s Employee Giving Campaign will be featured. Participating in this campaign sends a powerful message to the community that employees not only work here, but also truly believe in our mission to serve all people through exemplary patient care, education and research. They are dedicated to excellence and committed to care.
Giving, in all forms, has always been a priority for Rosa Talamantes, business manager with the Office of Institutional Advancement at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.
“A family principle and tradition instilled in me at a very young age by my parents was to share talents and wealth with others.” Talamantes has carried on the tradition, teaching her family about philanthropy and promoting the welfare of others at work.
When she joined TTUHSC El Paso’s IA team, gifts from the community inspired her to donate to the Employee Giving Campaign. Her monthly donation toward the Medical Student Run Clinic and the President’s Excellence Fund is her way of giving back.
“It was hard choosing a fund; they all serve an honorable purpose. I wish I could give to them all,” said Talamantes. “Giving back to TTUHSC El Paso is my tiny way of saying ‘thank you’ to the community.”
A local advocate, Talamantes has deep roots in the Borderland. Originally from Ciudad Juárez, she graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and from the University of Phoenix at Santa Teresa with a Master of Business Administration in 2008. Prior to joining TTUHSC El Paso, she worked for UTEP and the City of El Paso.
“TTUHSC El Paso is a great place to work. The influence and impact it has on the community by educating future doctors and nurses is continually growing.”
