Employees Honored for Service to University

On June 9, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) honored 140 employees for longstanding service with the institution. The honorees met anywhere from five to 40 years of service, and represented a range of positions, from clinical assistants and administrative staff to senior faculty members.

Associate Professor Garrett S. Levin, M.D., and Professor David F. Briones, M.D., both received the highest honor for 40 years of service to the university.

Dr. Levin spends most of his time in the neonatal intensive care unit where he takes care of sick newborn infants. During his tenure, he has been passionate about improving the outcome of newborn infants and teaching the next generation of doctors how to care for them. Dr. Levin received his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Mexico and later conducted his residency training here in El Paso at Thomason Hospital (now known as University Medical Center of El Paso).

Dr. Briones is the founder of the Department of Psychiatry at TTUHSC El Paso and has chaired the department multiple times. Despite the many awards he has received over the years, Dr. Briones is proudest of helping to train the next generation of psychiatrists. He received his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch and conducted residency training at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Here is a complete list of all the employees honored at the award ceremony.
