The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Paul L. Foster School of Medicine has already received over 1000 applications for the 2014-2015 admissions season. The office of admissions anticipates receiving over 3000 applications, and is aiming to interview approximately 600 candidates for the 100 positions in the entering class of 2015. The capability to interview candidates for our school is strictly dependent on the number of faculty interviewers available, and the admissions office is soliciting assistance. “This is an excellent opportunity for faculty to engage in an essential activity of our medical school, and get to know some of their potential future students,” said Manuel Schydlower, M.D., associate academic dean for TTUHSC Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Admissions. “The time contributed by faculty as interviewers is recognized by the dean’s office as Educational Value Unit (EVU) credits for their departments.”
The interview season will take place on Thursday afternoons, August 7, 2014 to January 15, 2015 (except on Thanksgiving Day, December 26, 2014 and January 1, 2015). Interviewers are asked to commit to interview candidates on at least five of these Thursdays from 12:30 – 3 pm, but more times or as many as can be done will be appreciated. Interviewers are encouraged to stay for deliberations by the admissions committee that follow and advocate for their candidates. One variance this year: an interview day on Wednesday, October 8, instead of Thursday, October 9. New interviewers and new members of the admissions committee will have a choice to attend one of three orientation sessions on admissions process that will be offered July 22, 24 and 30, 2014, MEB 1140, 2:30-4:30 pm.
Faculty interested in this opportunity to participate in the admissions process, can directly contact Dr. Manuel Schydlower, associate dean for admissions, firstname.lastname@example.org or John Snelling, director of admissions email@example.com, tel: 215-4410.
