Patient Care & Education – I am proud to announce our new academic affiliation with Sierra Providence Health Network (SPHN), in conjunction with Medistar Corporation. The Tenet Healthcare Organization, which oversees SPHN, will build and operate the building in far west El Paso. The hospital will initially assist in training 50 to 60 TTUHSC Paul L. Foster SOM students, along with 50 – 70 TTUHSC at El Paso residents. The hospital will encompass the unique attributes of a teaching hospital and provide the highest quality of care. This is good for El Paso.
Research Symposium – The Eighth Annual Research Colloquium, which took place May 5 – 8, was a success. About 140 attended the keynote presentation by Dr. Brad Pollock, professor and chairman in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Congrats to everyone who participated.
National Nurses Week – This week is National Nurses Week and I want to thank each and every one of our nurses, whether working in a clinical setting, administrative position or teaching capacity – or ALL three! The world of medicine definitely takes a team effort, and the students from the Paul L. Foster SOM and Gayle Greve Hunt SON will compliment each others educational experiences for many years to come.
Milestone – Next Friday, May 16, the second class of the TTUHSC Paul L. Foster School of Medicine will gather to attend their commencement and graduation ceremony at the El Paso Plaza Theatre. We will bring you highlights in next week’s Tech View.
