Geriatric Behavioral Unit – Wednesday afternoon, Sierra Providence Health Network in collaboration with TTUHSC El Paso announced the opening of the first Geriatric Behavioral Unit in El Paso. This unit, led by Interim Chair of Psychiatry, Dr. David Briones, will focus on the acute care and mental needs of El Paso’s elderly. The blending of these two great health resources for the sake of best outcomes will be a huge asset to the city and will help fill the gaps in our communities overall health needs. VA-Clinic Partnership – Congressman O’Rourke has expressed interest in how TTUHSC El Paso might be able to expand its services to veterans living here in El Paso. Those services already offered have included anesthesia, internal medicine, orthopedic and obstetrics and gynecology among others. Even more exciting is the possibility of having the VA Medical Center relocated to the health sciences center campus in order to provide our veterans easier access to all of the subspecialties we offer. It would be a win-win for TTUHSC education, research, patient care, and of course the men and women that have served our country. Stay tuned as these discussions further develop.

About 3000 students, alumni, house staff, and faculty are elected nationally each year. Since its founding, more than 150,000 members have been elected to the society.
