Sprint for Sparks – On Sunday, October 12, the inaugural Sprint for Sparks 5K Race/Walk takes place on Scenic Drive. This event has been organized by the PLFSOM Class of 2017 students. All proceeds will benefit the expansion of the Sparks Community Center, which provides educational programs, mentoring opportunities, and career services to adults with special needs. Our students “adopted” the Sparks Community Center because they are committed to providing care to those most in need through community collaboration. Blood Drive – I am delighted to share that 70 units of blood were donated to United Blood Services by TTUHSC El Paso students, faculty and staff this week. For their generosity, each donor received credits that can be used toward the purchase of movie tickets and other fun items. In addition, they were entered into a drawing to win a Super Bowl Package and received a free cholesterol screening! Many thanks to all who donated their life saving blood, and especially to Pilar Sanchez, executive associate, Office of Clinical Affairs, and Mike Perez, programmer analyst III, MPIP, for making the time to coordinate this vital blood drive.
