New Year, New Identity – A new era is beginning at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso, and it includes a new identity….that is, a new logo identity!  Next month, I’ll share details on how we can use it most effectively to promote our university.

Mighty Mujer Registration – El Paso’s only all-female triathlon – the Mighty Mujer Triathlon – takes place on April 18. It is now in it’s fourth year offering women of all ages the opportunity to challenge themselves physically with running, swimming and biking.  This year we are sponsoring the Texas Tech Physicians Athlete Expo which provides health screenings and information to those attending the event.  If you are interested in registering for this event or would like more information, go to

Walkin’ the Talk – A new year of “Walkin’ the Talk” wellness lectures begins with a CrossFit presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at noon in the Medical Education Building, room 1110.  The owner of PUSH gym, Daniel Alvarado, will introduce you to this strength and conditioning program that is based upon a variety of high-intensity, functional movements. The first 40 attendees will receive lunch and a Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso workout towel.  You won’t want to miss it.

Inclement Weather – As winter approaches, our chances for snowy, icy conditions increase. Ensuring that individuals with chronic conditions or seasonal illnesses receive care during these times of inclement weather is critical. For this reason, TTUHSC El Paso clinics remain open without delays, except in extreme conditions.  Unless a campus-wide STAT! Alert stating otherwise is received via email, text or phone message, TTUHSC El Paso classes will also meet.  If you would like more information regarding inclement weather protocol, please go to OP 10.02 to learn more.

Holiday Closings –TTUHSC El Paso will be closed for the holidays on Dec. 24, 25, 26, 31 and Jan. 1.  Please remember to fill any prescriptions needed prior to those closings.  The Tech View blog will return on Jan. 8 ready to bring you the latest news from the university. If health care topics you would like to learn more about or stories around campus come to mind, please send them to
