The Office of Diversity Affairs hosted the Second Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Friday, October 3 in the grassy field between the Medical Education Building and Medical Sciences Building I. This year, the focus was on Spain, bringing musical and dance performances by Gallegos y Baile Flamenco. Spanish tapas and desserts were provided by Chile Chipotle. Over 160 participants enjoyed the beautiful weather while taking in the festivities. The Office of Diversity Affairs is also distributing weekly e-mail blasts with fun facts from various Latin and Central American countries such as Argentina, El Salvador, and Mexico. Senior Director for the Office of Diversity Affairs Jessica Calderón-Mora said “These types of cultural events are imperative because they promote awareness of various cultures that exist within our city and patient population.”
