The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso Office of Global Health invites you to this month’s Perspectives Film Series screening of the documentary “Being Mortal” on Thursday, July 30, from noon – 1 p.m., in the L. Frederick and Ginger Francis Lecture Hall, MEB, Aud. 1200. Following the film, Paul Casner, M.D., professor in the TTUHSC El Paso Department of Internal Medicine and chief of the Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, will join attendees for a discussion and Q&A.
“Being Mortal” is based on Dr. Atul Gawande’s book “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End”. The film provides a powerful and intimate look at physicians, patients, and their families struggling with conversations about the realities of aging and death. It shows how even well–trained physicians can find it difficult in leading these discussions. Full of eye-opening research and riveting storytelling, “Being Mortal” asserts that medicine can comfort and enhance our experience even to the end.
