Sierra Providence Health Network and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso Collaborate on New Teaching Hospital

Unknown-8Sierra Providence Health Network (SPHN) and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) at El Paso, in conjunction with Medistar Corporation, are collaborating on a new multi-million dollar teaching hospital and a 110,000 square foot medical office building in far West El Paso. The new hospital will have capacity up to 140 beds and will operate as part of the Sierra Providence Health Network (SPHN), Tenet’s system of hospitals and outpatient centers in El Paso. It will serve as a teaching hospital for medical students, nursing students, resident physicians and faculty from TTUHSC’s Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, eventually offering training for approximately 75 medical residents across a multi-year program.

The investment in new technology and medical research will enhance educational training in specialties such as emergency Unknown-10medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology and surgery. This collaboration will also provide patients with opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research.

Foster School of Medicine and vice president for health affairs, TTUHSC at El Paso. “Our new affiliation with Sierra-Providence will allow our students to learn in a state-of-the-art community based hospital while meeting the needs of our growing student body as well as our accreditation requirements for expanding class sizes.”

Unknown-5The new hospital and MOB will be located at the corner of Resler and Transmountain Road, and will serve as a teaching hospital for medical students, nursing students, resident physicians, and faculty from TTUHSC’s Paul L. Foster School of Medicine.

Construction on the hospital is scheduled to begin in fall 2014 and be completed in the fall of 2016.

This development complements SPHN’s continued investment in the city of El Paso, which has grown to more than $550 million in the last 10 years. Additionally SPNH and TTUHSC recently announced another collaboration to develop the city’s first acute geriatric behavioral health unit that will be housed at Providence Memorial Hospital. The unit will have 12 private rooms and cater to patients 65 years-of-age and older.
