The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Staff Senate kicked off its fifth annual Holiday Toy and Blanket Drive in late November. The event that started as a collaborative drive to benefit its partner hospital, El Paso Children’s Hospital, has now expanded to include several community nonprofits.
“At TTUHSC El Paso, we talk about community engagement and the importance of maintaining a relationship with the community we serve, so it’s critical for the Staff Senate to assist in this universitywide mission,” said Staff Senate President René André.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys and blankets can be made at donation boxes located around campus and at various off-site clinics.
The annual drive is just one of many events sponsored by the university’s Staff Senate. In the future, André hopes to make all TTUHSC El Paso employees aware of the many ways to give back to the community.
“Though the donations close on Dec. 19, there are always ways to give back,” André said. “Throughout the year, we sponsor several events that promote the current and future needs of the entire TTUHSC El Paso community.”
