The holiday blues were a main topic of this month’s “The Exam Room.” The Facebook Live Q&A event featured TTUHSC El Paso Associate Professor of Psychiatry Dr. Moataz Ragheb, who answered viewers’ questions on depression and seasonal affective disorder.
During the broadcast on Wednesday, Dec. 12, Dr. Ragheb discussed treatments for seasonal affective disorder, holiday depression, and what signs to look for in family and friends who may be depressed.
One in five adult Texans experiences a mental health concern at some point during the year, according to MentalHealthTx.org, and 12.5 percent of El Paso County residents experience frequent mental distress, according to Healthy Paso Del Norte.
Dr. Ragheb received his medical degree from Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He completed an internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UT Health) McGovern Medical School and a psychiatry residency at the University of Maryland School of Medicine/Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Ragheb also holds a doctorate degree in psychiatry from the Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine and is board certified in psychiatry.
