Richard W. McCallum, M.D., professor and founding chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso received the Gold Level Texas Medical Association Award for Excellence in Academic Medicine. Dr. McCallum was one out of only ten physicians selected state-wide for the gold award.
Awarded annually from the Texas Medical Association, this award specifically recognizes academic physicians who exemplify excellence in teaching, conduct as a role model, and overall professionalism. The award is given in three tiers, bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. Only one platinum recipient is selected each year, pulled from the gold level awardees.
Dr. McCallum will be featured in TMA’s monthly publication, “Texas Medicine,” as well as its monthly e-newsletter, “It’s Academic.” Furthermore, he will be honored at the April 28 meeting of The Council on Medical Education in San Antonio.
