TTUHSC El Paso Holds Q&A on Mental Health
On Friday, May 12, the Office of Institutional Advancement held its latest session of The Exam Room — a monthly Facebook Live Q&A that invites the public to submit questions to health care professionals at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso).
In honor of Mental Health Month, Peter Thompson, M.D., a physician and researcher in the Department of Psychiatry, hosted the session. Dr. Thompson, who specializes in bipolar disorder, treatment-resistant depression and the biology of brain disorders, took questions from viewers about a variety of mental illnesses, including depression and schizophrenia. Dr. Thompson also discussed El Paso’s first Brain Bank — a TTUHSC El Paso laboratory that conducts postmortem research to understand the biological underpinnings behind mental illness.
