TTUHSC El Paso Hosts Q&A on Cancer Prevention
In 2018, 1.7 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 600,000 people will die from it, according to the National Cancer Institute.
October is breast cancer awareness month, and TTUHSC El Paso aimed to answer questions related to cancer prevention in its latest session of “The Exam Room,” a Facebook Live Q&A with Navkiran Shokar, M.D. Shokar is a professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and director for Cancer Prevention and Control at TTUHSC El Paso.
During the Q&A Thursday, Oct. 11, Dr. Shokar addressed how obesity raises the risk of getting cancer, the prevalence of liver cancer along the border, and cancer screenings available in the community for the uninsured and underinsured.
