TTUHSC El Paso Hosts Q&A on Nurse Practitioners’ Role in Health Care
When El Pasoans visit hospitals, urgent care clinics and outpatient clinics, they are often seen and diagnosed by nurse practitioners (NPs), as well as doctors. This important role of nurse practitioners in health care was the focus of the latest session of The Exam Room, a Facebook Live Q&A featuring Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso)’s expert health care specialists.
The session, livestreamed Tuesday, March 6, featured Cheyenne Rincones, M.S.N., R.N., a certified family nurse practitioner and director of outpatient clinical services for the Family Medicine Residency Program at TTUHSC El Paso.
Discussion topics included the difference between a registered nurse and an NP; what credentials are needed to practice as an NP; and the ailments that NPs treat most often in El Paso.
