Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) is one of 135 nonprofits participating in the first El Paso Giving Day November 15. The 24-hour virtual event allows individuals to make a donation to participating organizations from a centralized website. Event organizers and participating nonprofits hope to ignite the spirit of giving across the region.
Philanthropy is at the core of TTUHSC El Paso’s mission. In fact, the institution exists because a small group of interested donors decided to take an active role in changing the face of health care across the El Paso region — a goal that can only be enhanced by participating in El Paso Giving Day.
“Working alongside our president, faculty, and supporters to instill in others a philosophy of giving that is donor-centric and results-oriented is something I am very proud of,” said TTUHSC El Paso Associate Vice Chancellor Victoria Pineda. “After all, individuals inspired the establishment of our campus, and it is imperative that this ongoing support is cultivated, nurtured, and cherished in order to ensure our success as a community.”
Though El Paso Giving Day does not officially kick off until Nov. 15, those interested in making a gift to a participating nonprofit are able to schedule their donation starting Nov. 14.
One of Giving Day’s initiatives is to attract new and younger donors from the region, so there is a heavy social media presence from participating organizations and individuals to enhance public outreach. Additionally, throughout the day on Nov. 15, event organizers will be awarding $500 prizes to the nonprofit with the most donors during four “power hours”: 6-7 a.m., 10-11 a.m., 3-4 p.m. and 10-11 p.m.
