TTUHSC El Paso Welcomes New Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso are proud to announce Rajiv Rajani, M.D., as the chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. He is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and orthopaedic oncologist. Dr. Rajani specializes in the diagnosis and surgical management of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors and in the treatment of metastatic bone disease, total joint replacements, as well as hip and knee reconstruction. Dr. Rajani sees patients in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso located at 4800 Alberta Ave.

In addition to seeing patients at Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso, Dr. Rajani will teach medical students and guide orthopaedic residents at TTUHSC El Paso.

“As the department chair, I’m focused on building a fantastic team and putting them in the best place to succeed,” said Dr. Rajani. “I want faculty and staff who believe in the university’s mission and want to be part of something bigger than just going to work every day.”

Dr. Rajani attended the University of Michigan Medical School, Emory University for his residency in orthopaedic surgery, and the University of Florida for his fellowship in orthopaedic oncology.

“I see myself as a resource for primary care physicians, oncologists and orthopaedic surgeons who desire more specialized care for their patients,” said Dr. Rajani. “I’m also excited to be part of this community. I believe we have to look at the people in El Paso as part of our family. My goal is to be engaged with my patients, students, residents and staff by being involved and available.”

Like orthopaedic cancers, orthopaedic oncologists are extremely rare. Dr. Rajani seeks to provide high-quality, effective care to patients with bone or soft tissue masses, whether they’re cancerous or not.

Orthopaedic oncologists have expertise in diagnosing and treating malignant musculoskeletal diseases. They perform a variety of procedures to remove tumors, reconstruct bones, if necessary, and help patients restore mobility and/or relieve symptoms.

Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso offers services from a variety of subspecialty providers, helping local families avoid the expense of traveling outside the city for specialized health care services and is the largest multispecialty provider in the region with over 250 physicians.

Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso provides more than $31 million of uncompensated care annually and its doctors conduct more than 200,000 clinic visits each year. To make an appointment, call 915-215-5400.
