Baby Café Relocating – Reopens at New Location on Jan. 5

The Baby Café at the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing (GGHSON), Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso will have an extended holiday closure from December 8, 2014 to January 1, 2015 to prepare for a move to their new location in Central El Paso, and reopen January 5, 2015. The Baby Café, currently at 415 East Yandell inside the nursing school, is a drop-in center for breastfeeding mothers and the people who support them.

The center will move to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) campus’ Texas Tech Medical Center at 4801 Alberta Ave. Moving to the new location will serve both the east and west sides of El Paso and provide the community easier access to Texas Tech pediatricians, obstetricians and certified nurse-midwives. The GGHSON Baby Café in El Paso has been serving women and babies since 2008 and is the second oldest Baby Café in the United States.

“The El Paso community has embraced the Baby Café with more than 3,000 visits per year. There is a large devoted set of volunteers who have selflessly given their time to help support and help the many families who come to the center,” said Lizabeth Berkeley, director of the GGHSON Baby Café. “The GGHSON Baby Cafe has been instrumental in raising the profile of breastfeeding here on the border with three Baby Cafes opening in Juarez since the GGHSON Baby Café opened,” said Berkeley.
