From the Desk of the Founding President and Dean
Anesthesiology Program – I am pleased to share the news of our latest collaboration with Sierra Providence Health Network (SPHN). Five of our Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC EP) faculty anesthesiologists are now providing services at Providence Memorial Hospital, Sierra Medical Center and Sierra Providence East Medical Center. Eric Evans, CEO of SPHN, appreciates the quality of services our anesthesiologists will provide their patient population, and worked with us to make this collaboration possible. Anesthesiology is an essential component of our medical school curriculum and a very popular career choice for our students. This partnership with SPHN ensures the best opportunities for our students, and our community. We look forward to a long, productive relationship with SPHN. Learn more in this week’s Tech View blog.
Chancellor Duncan – The newly installed Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert Duncan is no stranger to El Paso. Chancellor Duncan has been a supporter of our medical school since its inception, using his position as a State Senator and member of the Senate Committee on Higher Education to advance legislation that made our health sciences center a reality. This week he traveled to El Paso to meet with key leaders of TTUHSC El Paso and the community to gain greater insight into our needs. We look forward to his leadership as our chancellor as TTUHSC El Paso continues to evolve.
White Coat Ceremony – As President, and new Dean of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine (PLFSOM), I look forward to hosting the school’s sixth White Coat Ceremony this coming Saturday, July 19, at the Plaza Theatre. The ceremony represents a rite of passage for our 104 medical students into the medical profession. As a symbol of their inclusion, students will receive a short white coat displaying the PLFSOM patch on it. Our sixth class of medical students will then present the “Class Oath” which they have prepared to guide them over the course of their careers. I look forward to this special event.
