Texas Tech Physician Appointed Dean for Medical Education
Richard Brower, M.D., has been appointed Associate Dean for the Office of Medical Education, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine (PLFSOM), Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso. Dr. Brower is also the Chair of the Department of Medical Education and a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology.
Dr. Brower is currently in his sixth year with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Department of Medical Education. During this time he has played pivotal roles in the development and delivery of the MS 1-2 curriculum, re-organization and development of the Department of Medical Education’s faculty, staff and workspaces, development of innovative educational-program-centered teaching and research facilities, institutional preparations for LCME accreditation, student admissions, and implementation of the state-mandated Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) summer program.
Dr. Brower’s professional roots are in neurology. He is board certified, a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, and a specialist in the clinical management of epilepsy. Prior to transitioning to the Department of Medical Education, Dr. Brower was in academic clinical practice at TTUHSC since 1996. During these years he concentrated on direct patient care, clinical teaching of medical students and residents, antiepileptic drug clinical trials, and collaborative clinical scholarship. Dr. Brower continues to practice in the outpatient clinic and interprets electroencephalograms at University Medical Center.
